Bringing Up Burrito

Today, Demelza and I tried our luck with Friday afternoon studying. Turns out we have a slightly shorter attention span on Friday afternoons, especially when we plan to reward ourselves with margaritas when we’re done. We got a few solid hours in before Ben came and met us, at which point we started researching local burrito joints on our phones. We settled on Benny’s Burritos, which has $3 margaritas during happy hour (4-7pm AND 10-11pm!!), and a pretty good approximation of a “San Francisco Mission style” burrito. The ends weren’t folded closed, and the salsa, guac and sour cream all came in little paper cups on the side, but I took these as small idiosyncrasies of the East Coast interpretation of the West Coast burrito. I think this place might contain the actual best burrito I’ve had so far on this island. The margaritas were delightful as well. Demelza told me that Ben makes his with fresh squeezed limes though, so he might win in that category.

The quest for the best New York burrito shall continue! I have a feeling it’ll be ongoing for as long as I live here. There is always a better burrito.

After burritos, we made a stop at the Beauty Bar (we were apparently going for a totally alliterative evening), which is far less irritating than the Beauty Bar in the Mission in San Francisco. So, while the Mission’s burritos might win, Manhattan’s Beauty Bar also gets a prize.
